Recently my mom got out of the hospital after a close call. In and out of a coma due to infection in her hand. This is my Moms hand in August, my last trip home. This is how it looked just before i had to return back here, and this as gross, sad, yucky, as this picture really is, it looks good compared to what i saw just a few weeks prior. They dont know whats causing my moms hands to do this. Everything starts as a small blister and then it pops and well... then it just never heals and the tissue dies and wound gets bigger and bigger.
Looking at the picture and reflecting upon the recent hospitalization of my mom, i cant help but reflect on all that her hands have given. The hands of a Mother, Hours of cleaning, lifting, hugs, wiping tears, lifting herself up when she has fallen, lifting others up. cooking, knitting, quilting, canning. I am thankful for the sacrifices of my mom, for everything she has done for me with her hands.
Last week, my moms finger was amputated. She has lost the ability the do the things she loves so much. But she presses forward. She is warrior, strong, and fighting back. Always making the best of what she has....
For me...she is the definition of perserverance.
